The Japanese Banded Houndshark (Triakis scyllium) is slender with distinct darker bands. They can be found on sandy flats and beds of seaweed at depths of 150m. Generally a nocturnal solitary species, they often rest on the seabed in the daytime and can live for between 15 to 20 years. They can tolerate brackish water and can swim into estuaries and bays. They have a small habitat area and wild populations are decreasing.
